Tackling the drudge work... Impeding joy?

Ahhhh drudgery.

The stuff that puts "work" in the word work.  The necessary, boring, tedious things we do in order to get to the fun things.   I can tell you that starting a business is fun but it's also a bit daunting.  Even starting an internet-based business requires a lot of information gathering/sifting/digesting, lofty idea generation (& general reeling in of those same ideas).  It requires a lot of thought and consideration, a lot of planning and a lot of work.  Did I mention there is work involved?  :)

I've spent a good deal of time tweaking my business website this week... and culling photos of previous jewelry creations, deciding if they would resonate with my target customers or if the pictures make the photo grade.  I've been writing blurbs about the pieces, editing/cropping selected photos to improve the quality of the pictures, sorting my electronic files to make retrieval easier later.   I've been organizing my desk items (papers, files, supplies, cords, etc.)  and my studio space (grouping & storing supplies, organizing receipts, bringing a little feng shui into my life.)  My Mac computer (Norby) and I have gotten extremely close as he's put in a number of late nights.  (I am a night owl and do my best creative work from 8 p.m. to about 2 a.m.!)

The one thing I haven't done?  MAKE MORE JEWELRY.  Yikes!  The impetus for creating this business was to create and  market my jewelry.  Ok, Drudgery, I am done with you (for today.)   Into the studio and on with the fun!

If your puritanical work ethic or self-imposed rules concerning delayed gratification are impeding your pursuit of  joy, push them to the side (temporarily) and savor the feeling of doing what you love and making no apologies about it.  You deserve to live your best life.

And besides, there's always time for drudgery later.
